Bus and truck drivers have suspended their two-day strike following talks with Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba, paving the way for the resumption of transport services across the country.
Dr Nchemba met leaders representing passenger bus and truck drivers on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Prime Minister’s Sub-Office in Oysterbay, Dar es Salaam.
The meeting focused on challenges raised by drivers, with the government expressing its readiness to listen to their concerns and work towards addressing them.
Following the talks, the drivers’ leaders agreed to call off the strike and allow transport services to continue as normal.
The suspension is expected to ease disruptions that had affected passengers and the movement of goods during the two-day strike.
The government’s engagement with the drivers’ representatives now puts the focus on follow-up measures to address the concerns that triggered the industrial action.
