All Schools to Close on November 13, 2026

The Commissioner of Education, Dr. Lyabwene M. Mtahabwa, has directed that all schools close on 13 November 2026 for the term ending December 2026, instead of 04/12/2026 as previously instructed in the educational circulars issued earlier.

The Commissioner's directive was issued through Educational Circular No. 3 of 2026 regarding the change of closing dates for pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools in Tanzania Mainland. The circular, issued late this week, directed that it will officially take effect on 1 October 2026.

Furthermore, the circular states that this decision was made in consideration of the warning issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority regarding the likelihood of heavy El Niño rains and their impacts, noting that this measure aims to protect the safety and welfare of students, teachers, and other school staff.
